T Visa
-
If you have been a victim of human trafficking — whether for labor or sex — you may be eligible for something called a T visa.
This visa was created to protect survivors of trafficking and help them rebuild their lives safely in the United States.
What is the T visa?
The T visa is a special immigration option for people who:
-
Have been brought to the U.S. — or kept here — through force, fraud, or coercion,
-
Have suffered through labor exploitation (like being forced to work under abusive or illegal conditions) or sex trafficking,
-
Are willing to cooperate with law enforcement, unless they’re under 18 or unable to do so due to trauma, and
-
Would face extreme hardship or danger if returned to their home country.
What are the benefits of the T visa?
-
It gives you legal status to stay in the U.S. for up to 4 years,
-
You can apply for a work permit,
-
You may qualify to bring certain immediate family members (like children, spouse, or parents in some cases),
-
After 3 years (or earlier in some cases), you may be able to apply for a green card (permanent residency).
