Nicole M. Norman, Esq.

Managing Attorney

As the Managing Attorney, I founded New Roots Immigration because I believe that an immigration attorney should never lose sight of the person at the center of the case. I understand that coming to an attorney with the most personal and difficult parts of your life can be intimidating.
For many immigrants and their families, the legal system is intertwined with experiences of trauma, displacement, fear, separation, or circumstances in which they have felt unheard or unseen. I want New Roots Immigration to be a place where my clients feel heard, respected, informed, and supported—not like another case number or file. My goal is to fight for you and your families while doing what I can to make the immigration process feel a little less scary.
After working with immigrant clients while I attended law school, I felt called to practice immigration law differently by meeting my clients where they are at. New Roots Immigration is a small firm, which means the only person handling your case will be me. I provide clients with holistic and compassionate legal representation. This means that while it is your case, as a client, you will have me in your corner. Immigrants come to the United States to lay down new roots for themselves and their families, and those roots must be properly cared for.
When I earn your trust to retain me as your immigration attorney, I’m making a commitment that I take seriously. This means I will advocate for you and your family, explain every step in your case in words that make sense to you, and empower you to heal your past and build your future.

A Different Approach to Immigration Law

I intentionally built New Roots Immigration around a quality-over-quantity philosophy. I believe every case deserves the time and attention necessary to understand the individual behind it.
Immigration cases can turn on a single fact, document, deadline, or legal argument. Even details that may initially seem small can have profound consequences. I take the time to listen carefully, understand your story and goals, evaluate your legal options, and prepare your case with the care and attention it deserves.
I also believe you should understand what is happening in your own case. Immigration law can be incredibly complicated, but you should never feel like you need a law degree to understand your options. I strive to explain complicated legal processes in clear language that makes sense to you and allows you to make informed decisions about their lives.

My Experience

My legal experience is focused on humanitarian immigration, asylum, removal defense, immigrant detention, and immigration matters involving individuals who are also navigating the criminal legal system due to pending criminal charges. I have advocated for individuals suffering prolonged detention and facing removal (or deportation), including many who carry emotional pain many Americans could never imagine, and helped clients navigate some of the most consequential legal processes of their lives. My commitment to immigrant advocacy extends beyond my legal practice. During my final year of law school, I founded Las Hermanitas Immigrant Resource Fund, a Pittsburgh-based 501(C)(3) public charity dedicated to reducing financial and systemic barriers to justice for indigent immigrants. My commitment to ethical and compassionate advocacy was recognized with the 2026 Kandy Reidbord Ehrenwerth Award from Duquesne University’s Thomas R. Kline School Of Law. The award recognizes a graduate who demonstrates a keen sense of ethics, devotion to the law, concern for the underprivileged, and commitment to social issues affecting society—values that closely reflect the way I approach immigration law.
